A coal company was taking over an idled mine.  The mine had significant water issues and the company needed to pump water out to mine the coal.  Failure of the pump system could lead to flooding and damage to expensive equipment.

WBA provided the control system to control the pumps and dial-out should there be any faults in the system.

System included a 600 hp medium voltage motor and drive (provided and started-up by others), a 60 hp submersible secondary pump with drive (supplied by customer, started up by WBA)  to feed the main pump.  Control system had to monitor pit water depth, control starting and stopping of pumps and monitor pump status.

Main pump had a medium voltage ABB drive.  Secondary pump was controlled by a Yaskawa drive.  Control system included a UPS to provide power for calling out in event of power loss, cell modem, CompactLogix plc and AB touchscreen.
