Automotive

Many of the tube and bundle cutting lines we programmed produced steel for use in automotive applications.

In addition, WBA has been involved in:

  1. Manufacture of valve stems (upgrading controls on multiple centerless grinders.
  2. Production of universal joints (providing plc based safety controls and integrating into existing controls for grinding, drilling, and filing operations.
  3. Programming of straightening equipment for straightening drive shafts.
  4. Control panels for testing charge in new automotive batteries prior to shipment.
  5. WBA helped move and start-up lines to cut and form the tubes used to make shock absorbers.

Chemical

WBA has extensive experience with media milling equipment for particle size reduction of materials. We have programmed planetary mixers used for developing pastes and slurries. We have designed, built and programmed the controls systems for multiple skid-based processing systems

We have also developed a complete chemical mixing control system. This system controlled several pump/drum stations to feed a central mix tank with weigh scale feedback. Pumping was controlled to precisely dose chemicals into the mix tank for proper batch mix. The system included automatic switch-over of drums at each station when a drum emptied during feed.

WBA has also controlled systems for proper dosing chemicals for water treatment at water plants and for chemical treatment at both industrial and municipal waste-water facilities.

Coal and Aggregates

WBA has significant experience in coal and aggregates. We have provided a complete control systems upgrade for a stone processing plant. We developed a completely new control system for a coal processing plant (plant had no functioning equipment when it was taken over by our customer). For another coal plant, we did all of the controls for the addition of a disc filter system and upgraded their Jeffrey jig control system.  At coal bagging plant, we made upgrades to their cyclone to prevent damage to their belts, and provided a complete upgrade of their bagging system scale controls.

Other related work has included support of a sand processing plant and support of a salt drying facility.

Confectioner

We have provided support to 5 plants that produce candy. Support ranges from daily support to maintain operations, upgrades of chocolate depositing lines, programming modifications to assist in start-up of newly installed nutrition bar production, upgrades of Servotronic flow wrappers, upgrades, modifications to chocolate batch mixing (including dry ingredient feed, liquid ingredient feed, mixing, and milling), and modifications to storage to line feed systems (including addition of Loss in Weight feeders for accurate addition of inclusions to product). We also provide support to a chocolate coated pretzel facility and 2 plants that produce wholesale chocolate (production of chocolate from raw chocolate beans.

Cardboard Box Manufacturers

WBA has provided support to five different cardboard box manufacturers over the past several years. We have significant experience with llexo lines from Langston, Curioni, Bobst, McKinley, as well as support equipment such as stitchers, banders, balers, and conveyance systems.

WBA has also worked on printing lines for printing of laminates.

Food and Beverage

WBA has had a long relationship with a bakery equipment company. As part of this relationship, we have programmed dozens of horizontal mixers, planetary mixers, spiral mixers, chunkers, dough trough elevators, proofers, fryers, packaging equipment, conveyor systems, ovens, ingredient dispense systems, etc. In support of this customer, we have serviced donut bakeries, bread bakeries, pizza manufacturers, cupcake plants, etc throughout the United States and Canada. In addition to those customers, we have several of our own customers in the baking industry. For these customers, we have programmed pizza lines, pierogi lines and other specialty product manufacturing lines.

In addition to baking, we have had significant experience in meat production facilities. We have multiple meat processing customers, where we have programmed lunchmeat production equipment, meatball production equipment, etc.

We provide support for processing of produce. We have programmed automated freezing equipment and packaging equipment.

On the beverage side, we have supported multiple small beer breweries.

Medical Devices

WBA has had a long relationship with a medical weaving company. Developing control systems for weaving stents.

We have also built controls for several machines that assemble scalpels.

Metal Processing

WBA has experience in many aspects of metal processing. These include:

  • Cut-to-Length: WBA has worked with large band saw, abrasive wheel, shear, and rotary head cutting applications for steel i-beam bundles, pipe, bar, and aluminum web applications.
  • Planing: WBA upgraded a planer for large steel plates.  Project included replacing the existing MG sets for a 300hp DC motor and 75hp DC motor with dc drives and replacing existing relay control cabinet with plc controls.
  • Casting: WBA has supported four different metal casting companies.  We have assisted with starting up newly installed used equipment, upgraded equipment, and kept existing equipment running.
  • Foundry: WBA has years of experience keeping foundry equipment operational.
  • Specialty Metals: WBA has built multiple controls systems for hydriding/dehydriding titanium, assisted in starting up a newly installed used spray atomizer, and helped maintain inspection equipment.  We also assisted in starting-up an experimental silicon metal arc-furnace.
  • Meal Processing: WBA upgraded multiple centerless grinders for the production of valve stems.  We developed a control system for straightening drive shafts.
  • Recycling: WBA has provided support for and upgraded metal shredding equipment.

Packaging

WBA has worked with auger fillers, pump filling of containers, baggers, flow wrappers, box formers, foilers, cartoners, shrink wrappers, and form-fill-and-seal machines.

We have programmed palletizers, de-palletizers and stretch wrappers.

We have programmed bottle filling equipment.

We have programmed conveyor systems and banding equipment.

Plastics (Blow Molding and Injection Molding)

WBA has provided support for Blow Molding and Injection Molding equipment for manufacturers of plastic household items and plastic containers.

Printing

WBA programmed a high speed stacker for taking sigs (group of pages) from a printing press to band them into stacks for transfer to binding. We provided start-up support at book manufacturers in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Michigan, and Canada.

We also supported the printing facilities of a newspaper in northeast Pennsylvania.

WBA successfully started the one machine and later started up two additional machines

Textiles

WBA has a had a long history with a textile company.  We have developed new control systems for coating fabric, new control systems for inspection unwind/rewind stations, and assisted in troubleshoot their web handling processing lines.

WBA has also had a long relationship with a medical materials company. We have developed control systems for weaving equipment, as well as have supported their braiding and knitting equipment and heat setting tenter frame.
